Report: Joseph Benavidez & Deiveson Figueiredo Battle For Vacant Flyweight Title Again On July 18
The vacant UFC Flyweight Title will hopefully get a new owner on July 18 as #1 Deiveson Figueiredo and #2 Joseph Benavidez battle for the gold once again.
MMA Junkie first reported the news, but it is unknown at this time as to whether or not the fight will serve as the main event.
Figueiredo (18-1-0) beat Benavidez in their first encounter at UFC Fight Night Norfolk, but was unable to win the flyweight title due to missing weight for the bout. Figueiredo comes into the contest riding a three fight winning streak, with those other wins coming over Tim Elliott and Alexandre Pantoja. Figueiredo has suffered a single defeat as a professional MMA fighter and that came to Jussier Formiga at UFC Fight Night Nashville.
Benavidez (28-6-0) has won three of his last five, with those wins coming over Alex Perez, Dustin Ortiz and the aforementioned Formiga. Benavidezis challenging for the UFC Flyweight Title for the fourth time, as he lost twice before to Demetrious Johnson and once before to the aforementioned Figueiredo. Benavidez has suffered six losses as a professional MMA fighter and four of them came by way of decision.
The yet to be announced UFC card takes place on Saturday, July 18 from a location to be announced and with a main event to be announced. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be announced.
