Dana White Says Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Joseph Benavidez II Possible

Deiveson Figueiredo scored a second round TKO victory over Joseph Benavidez in the main event of UFC Fight Night Norfolk, but a victorious Figueiredo was unable to win the UFC Flyweight Title due to missing weight for the event.

UFC President Dana White says that a rematch between the two is possible, citing an accidental headbutt and the weigh-in miss as two reasons why the fighters need to collide again.

“That was a great fight,” White said during a recent media scrum (via Tristen Critchfield of Sherdog). “Absolutely, I think the head butt had a lot to do with the knockout too. Not taking anything away from [Figueiredo]. I think you have to do that fight again. First of all, he didn’t make weight. Joe Still fought him. There was a head butt. A lot of controversy in that fight. It was a great fight. Both guys came to fight. I’m sure you know how I feel about him not making weight. We’ll do it again. They both deserve it.”

Figueiredo’s manager also said a rematch with Benvidez was what his fighter wanted, but they named UFC International Fight Week as a time for that bout.

White also states that if the rematch comes together, both Benavidez and Figueiredo will fight for the vacant UFC Flyweight Title.

“Will it be a title fight? Yeah,” White said.

There have only been two UFC Flyweight Champions in the seven-plus year history of the championship, with those title holders being Demetrious Johnson and Henry Cejudo.
