Dana White Shoots Down Nunes vs. Shevchenko III

Two division UFC champion Amanda Nunes successfully defended the women’s featherweight title against Felicia Spencer in the main event of UFC 250.

The UFC commentary team suggested that Nunes face UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko for a third time for her next fight, but UFC President Dana White is quick to shoot that down.

“For the third time? And Amanda won twice? No,” White said at the UFC 250 post-fight press conference (via Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie).

Nunes does hold the aforementioned 2-0 lead over Shevchenko, with those wins coming at UFC 196 and UFC 215.

White even states that fans would see Shevchenko vs. Zhang Weili before seeing Nunes vs. Shevchenko III.

“I don’t think that’s the right fight for Valentina,” White said. “If you look at Amanda, she’s the queen of two divisions right now – ’35 and ’45 – and I think what you’d see before that is a couple more wins from (Zhang) Weili and that fight happening before you would see the Amanda fight again.”

There is no word at this time as to what is next for Nunes, who may stay out of the Octagon until next year.
