NXT Viewership Falls Despite Running Unopposed On 12/23, AEW Rating Remains Steady

Despite running unopposed, NXT’s overnight viewership went down on December 23.

According to Showbuzz Daily, the December 23 episode of AEW Dynamite averaged 775,000 viewers, which is down from the 806,000 viewers the December 16 episode drew. As for NXT, this week’s show drew 698,000 viewers, down from December 16’s 766,000 viewers.

AEW drew a 0.32 rating in the 18-49 demographic this week, which is identical to last week’s number, and fifth-best in all of cable for the day. NXT drew a 0.19 rating in the 18-49 demographic this week (40th best on cable), which is also identical to last week’s rating. AEW had the highest rating among males in the 18-49 demographic with a 0.44 rating. NXT had a better rating in the 50+ demo with a 0.36 to AEW’s 0.28 rating.

AEW Dynamite began immediately following NXT due to an NBA game between the Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks. The show itself featured Sting explaining that he is with the promotion as an attempt to come full circle in his life and career as well as a Tag Team Championship match featuring Matt and Nick Jackson vs. The Acclaimed.

NXT was headlined by Adam Cole going against a returning Velveteen Dream, the show also saw many matches become official for January 6’s New Year’s Evil event including Tommaso Ciampa vs. Timothy Thatcher in the returning Fight Pit stipulation.
