Report: Frankie Edgar Faces Cory Sandhagen At UFC Fight Night Raleigh

A bantamweight division attraction has been added to UFC Fight Night Raleigh as #5 (FW) Frankie Edgar faces #3 Cory Sandhagen.

Brett Okamoto of ESPN first reported the bout, which will serve as the co-main event of the show.

Edgar (23-7-1) is making his UFC Bantamweight Division debut in this encounter, having previously fought at lightweight and featherweight. Edgar is a former UFC Lightweight Champion, defeating BJ Penn at UFC 112 to claim the gold. Edgar has challenged for the UFC Featherweight Title on three separate occasions and he lost all of those shots at the gold.

Sandhagen (12-1-0) is undefeated thus far under the UFC banner, having defeated Austin Arnett, Iuri Alcantara, Mario Bautista, John Lineker and Raphael Assuncao. Sandhagen has suffered just a single defeat as a professional MMA fighter and that came to Jamall Emmers at LFA 5 in February of 2017. Sandhagen has competed a total of thirteen times as a professional MMA fighter and just five of those bouts went the distance.

UFC Fight Night Raleigh takes place on Saturday, January 25 from the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina with Curtis Blaydes and Junior Dos Santos headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
