Report: Matheus Nicolau, Hector Sandoval & Brandon Moreno Have Been Cut By The UFC

The UFC Flyweight Division is seemingly getting thinner by the day as three more fighters have possibly been cut by the promotion.

Aaron Bronsteter of TSN Sports says that Matheus Nicolau, Hector Sandoval and Brandon Moreno are no longer in the UFC Flyweight Division top 15 rankings, which may indicate that all three fighters are gone from the promotion.

Nicolau (13-2-1, 3-1-0 UFC) had picked up three wins in the promotion over the trio of Bruno Rodrigues Mesquita, John Moraga and Louis Smolka. Nicolau was last seen in action at UFC On Fox 30 in July of 2018, suffering a first round knockout loss to Dustin Ortiz.

Sandoval (14-4-0, 2-2-0 UFC) hasn’t competed in over a year, with his last bout taking place at UFC Fight Night Mexico City in August of 2017. Sandoval did pick up two victories while competing in the UFC, defeating the duo of Fredy Serrano and Matt Schnell.

Moreno (14-5-0, 3-2-0 UFC) potentially exits the promotion on a two fight losing streak, dropping bouts to the duo of Sergio Pettis and Alexandre Pantoja. Moreno did headline UFC Fight Night Mexico City in August of 2017, suffering a loss to the aforementioned Pettis.

It has been widely speculated that the UFC Flyweight Division would be eliminated by the promotion after former divisional champion Demetrious Johnson was traded to One Championship a short time ago.
