Report: Louis Smolka Re-Signs With The UFC

It would appear that Louis Smolka is making his way back to the UFC after signing a multi-fight contract to return to the promotion.

Fightful’s Jame Lynch first broke the news, also reporting that Smolka will compete at bantamweight for his second run with the UFC. Smolka competed at flyweight during his initial tenure with the UFC, but that division may be scrapped altogether after Demetrious Johnson was traded to One Championship.

Smolka went 5-5-0 during the first run in the UFC, earning victories over the conglomerate of Alptekin Ozkilic, Richie Vaculik, Neil Seery, Patrick Holohan and Ben Nguyen. Smolka would exit the promotion on a four fight losing skid, dropping fights to Brandon Moreno, Ray Borg, Tim Elliott and Matheus Nicolau.

The newly re-signed UFC fighter did go undefeated since getting released from the UFC after a loss to the aforementioned Nicolau at UFC 219. Smolka defeated the trio of Tyrone Christian Gorgonia, Tycen Lynn and Kyle Estrada outside of the UFC auspices. Smolka did fight some top regional competition before returning to the UFC, as his three opponents hold a combined record of 25-11-0.

MMA Junkie reported a short time after the original filing from Fightful’s James Lynch, stating that Smolka will make his promotional return at UFC Fight Night Beijing on November 24, facing Sumudaerji Sumudaerji.
