Report: Jones vs. Gustafsson II At UFC 232 For UFC Light Heavyweight Title, Cormier To Be Stripped Of Gold

A rematch has been added to the year end UFC 232 card according to Ariel Helwani of ESPN and it is going to be for the UFC Light Heavyweight Title as Jon Jones takes on Alexander Gustafsson. It has yet to be revealed if this bout will headline the card or if the women’s featherweight title fight between Cyborg and Amanda Nunes will get that honor.

Daniel Cormier is the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, but is going to be stripped of the gold once the fight starts on December 29.

Jones (22-1-0-1NC) is returning for the first time after serving a fifteen month suspension from USADA for a failed drug test in line with UFC 214. Jones is a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, defeating Mauricio Rua at UFC 128 to claim the gold. Jones has suffered just a single defeat as a professional MMA fighter and that came via DQ against Matt Hamill at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale.

Gustafsson (18-4-0) was defeated in the first encounter at UFC 165 in September of 2013, with that loss coming by way of unanimous decision. Gustafsson has won just three of five since that first meeting against Jones, with those wins coming over Jimi Manuwa, Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira. Gustafsson is also back in action for the first time in well over a year, with his last bout happening in May of 2017.

UFC 232 takes place on Saturday, December 29 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with no main event made official at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
