Darby Allin Would Do Anything To Make Sting’s Last Match Special: When I’m Older, I Want To Be Sting
Darby Allin speaks about how much it means to be a part of Sting’s last match and what he is willing to do to make it memorable.
Sting retired in 2015 after he was injured in a match with Seth Rollins at WWE Night of Champions for the WWE Championship. More than five years later, Sting would sign with AEW and come out of retirement. Since then, he has had nearly 30 matches, all of which were tag team matches alongside Darby Allin.
Now, Sting and Darby are the AEW World Tag Team Champions, and gearing up for “Stinger” to have his final match at AEW Revolution 2024.
Speaking with Denise Salcedo, Darby noted that he would do anything to make his mentor’s last match a memorable one, specifically saying that he believes the end of someone’s career to be the most important part. Allin also went on record as saying he would like to be like Sting when he gets older.
“I’ll stop at nothing to make sure that man’s career ends on a high note,” he said. “I’m willing to put myself through anything physically in that match. Because to me, the most important part of a career is the end. People are gonna remember this forever, and if you crapped the bed in your final match, people would be like, ‘His career is good and everything but, man, he should have left last sooner.’ I don’t want that and he’s been hitting home runs in AEW this whole way. No one expected him to be able to do what he’s doing.
“I’m very, very grateful for the whole experience,” he continued. “I couldn’t been paired up with anyone better because he’s the most humble, chill guy outside the ring. He could be the most arrogant dude if he wanted to be because he’s done everything there is, but the fact that he’s so humble and nice, I’m like, That’s what I want to be when I’m 64 years old. So, when I get older, I want to be Sting.”
