Volkan Oezdemir Not Buying The Reason Why Jon Jones Got A Reduced Punishment
UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones was given an 15 month suspension for a failed drug test in line with UFC 214 and is now returning to action later this year at UFC 232.
Reports surfaced that Jones got a reduced suspension for cooperating with USADA to possibly reveal info on other cheaters, but its a story that Oezdemir isn’t buying.
“They cleared him from the sanction and they said, the test was whatever — I don’t even know what happened with the test. But I guess if he’s cleared he gets a chance to get his own belt back. So I can understand the decision … but I don’t buy the story,” Oezdemir said on the Eurobash podcast.
Jones and his manager Malki Kawa have denied that the fighter has or will snitch on others.
Oezdemir’s biggest problem with the whole situation is that for Jones and others, issues with failed drug tests happen over and over again.
“It keeps repeating itself,” said Oezdemir. “I think that’s the problem. Otherwise, I guess these things happen. We see a lot of people passing drug tests without any issue and then other people keep having issues. Of course if it keeps happening, people are going to bring it up, and it’s going to stay on your resume.”
UFC Fight Night Moncton takes place on Saturday, October 27 from the Moncton Events Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada with Volkan Oezdemir and Anthony Smith headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
