Sergio Moraes Accepts Responsibility For UFC Release, Says Promotions Are Interested In Him
Former UFC fighter Sergio Moraes was let go by the UFC in November of last year, ending a run with the promotion that lasted over seven year.
There are some who blame the UFC or other outstanding circumstances as to why they were released, but Moraes says it was his fault that it all came to an end.
“I think I did not apply myself enough and, because of that, I suffered lots of losses. It was entirely my fault, for not preparing mentally, for not training, for not focusing enough. It’s 100% my fault. I’m aware of my potential, I know what I can do. But most of the times, it’s all in your head,” Moraes said to Combate (via Lucas Rezende of Bloody Elbow).
Moraes went 8-5-1 in the UFC, with notable wins coming over Neil Magny, Omari Akhmedov, Zak Ottow, Tim Means and Ben Saunders.
Free agency may not last long for Moraes, who says there are promotions who have shown some interest in signing him.
“Life goes on as usual. The only thing that has changed is that I left the UFC. My plans for 2020 are the best possible. I’ll go back to jiu-jitsu competitions. Some companies are already interested in me, so we’ll see. Life goes on, right? Now I’m completely focused on jiu-jitsu. In MMA, I’ll be an all about jiu-jitsu version of me,” says Moraes.
There is no word yet on where Moraes may sign with next, but when he does fight again, it would be Moraes’ first time since March of 2010 that the fighter competed outside of the UFC.
