Road FC Holding Openweight Grand Prix Starting This May, 5 Competitors Announced

The Road FC promotion is known for holding some tournaments throughout their run as a promotion, with the $1 million lightweight tournament soon coming to a close.

However, a new tournament is on the horizon as the promotion and it comes in the form of the 8 man Road FC Openweight Grand Prix.

Five competitors have already been announced for the tournament, with those participants being Aori Gele, Chris Barnett, Wu Lahan, Jae-Hoon Kim and Alexandru Lungu. Former Bellator MMA fighter Mighty Mo won the promotions last openweight grand prix two years ago, but has yet to be announced for this years incarnation.

Gele (6-2-0-1NC) enters the tournament riding a four fight winning streak, which includes victories over Bob Sapp and Kazuyuki Fujita.

Barnett (16-6-0) has fought a plethora of UFC veterans throughout his career, including Travis Wiuff, Walt Harris, Oli Thompson and Alex Nicholson.

Lahan (5-0-0) has only competed once in the last three-plus years and none of his professional MMA bouts have gone out of the opening round.

Kim (0-3-0) has spent his brief professional MMA career competing exclusively in Road FC, including a loss to fellow grand prix participant Aori Gele.

Lungu (16-4-0) comes into the grand prix riding a four bout winning streak and none of his professional MMA fights have gone past the second round.

Three more competitors are expected to be announced in the coming to for the grand prix, which kicks off at Road FC 47 on Saturday, May 12.
