Report: UFC Releases Tarec Saffiedine
A second fighter has been released by the UFC this week as former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Tarec Saffiedine has by cut by the organization.
MMA Fighting first reported the news, although a reason for the fighter’s release isn’t known at this time.
Saffiedine (16-7-0, 2-4-0 UFC) only picked up two victories under the UFC banner, with those victories coming over the duo of Hyun Gyu Lim and Jake Ellenberger. Saffiedine did also suffer four losses in the UFC, with those coming to the four pack of Rory MacDonald, Rick Story, Dong Hyun Kim and Rafael Dos Anjos. Saffiedine hasn’t even competed in over two years now, with his last bout coming at UFC Fight Night Singapore in June of 2017. Saffiedine has seen his UFC run hampered by a string of injuries, fighting just six times in the five-plus years the fighter was with the organization. Saffiedine had more success competing outside of the UFC, defeating Nate Marquardt to win the Strikeforce Welterweight Title at Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine in January of 2013.
There is no word yet as to where Saffiedine could sign with next, but the free agent is able to sign with whatever promotion makes an acceptable offer.
