Report: Alexander Volkov Faces Derick Lewis At UFC 229

A heavyweight division attraction is expected to be added to UFC 229 according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN as #2 Derrick Lewis faces #5 Alexander Volkov.

Lewis (20-5-0-1NC) enters the contest on the strength of a two fight winning streak, defeating the duo of Francis Ngannou and Marcin Tybura. Lewis has suffered three losses under the UFC banner, with those defeats coming to the trio of Matt Mitrione, Shawn Jordan and Mark Hunt. Lewis has picked up a total of twenty wins as a professional MMA fighter, with seventeen of those wins coming by KO/TKO.

Volkov (30-6-0) is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated the quartet of Timothy Johnson, Roy Nelson, Stefan Struve and Fabricio Werdum. Volkov is a former Bellator MMA Heavyweight Champion, defeating Rich Hale by unanimous decision to win the gold at Bellator 84. Volkov hasn’t suffered a defeat in over three years, with that last loss coming to UFC veteran Cheick Kongo at Bellator 139.

UFC 229 takes place on Saturday, Octo0ber 6 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor headlining. Fightful is going to be providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
