Jennifer Maia Wants A Top 3 Opponent Next
Jennifer Maia competed on the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night Nashville, defeating Alexis Davis by unanimous decision.
A victorious Maia isn’t calling out any fighters right now, but wants her next foe to be ranked in the top three of the UFC Women’s Flyweight Division.
“Now I expect to get one of the top-3,” Maia said backstage after her fight (via Fernanda Prates & Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie). “Katlyn (Chookagian) could be one of them – I don’t recall right now the top-3, but I remember her – and, humbly, make my way up the rankings.”
Jessica Eye, Sijara Eubanks and Katlyn Chookagian are all ranked in the women’s flyweight division top three at the moment, with all of them booked for fights at this time as well, with Eye challenging for the flyweight title this June at UFC 238.
The flyweight fighter also has her eyes set on UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchneko.
“She’s a very tough athlete, but I think I have what it takes to reach her and soon, perhaps, fight for the title,” Maia said.
Maia holds a 1-1-0 record under the UFC banner, but is also a former Invicta Fighting Championship Flyweight Champion.
