Valentina Shevchenko Defends Title Against Jessica Eye At UFC 238

The UFC Women’s Flyweight Title is on the line this June at UFC 238, which was first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN, as Valentina Shevchenko puts the gold on the line against #1 Jessica Eye.

Shevchenko (16-3-0) is going to be making the first defense of the championship, defeating former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk to win the gold at UFC 231. Shevchenko is the second person to hold the UFC Women’s Flyweight Title, but the first fighter to defend the gold. Shevchenko has previously challenged for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title, losing to Amanda Nunes via decision at UFC 215.

Eye (14-6-0-1NC) enters the contest while in the midst of a three fight winning streak, having defeated the trio of Kalindra Faria, Jessica-Rose Clark and Katlyn Chookagian. Eye has fought as a bantamweight and flyweight in the UFC, earning an overall record of 4-5-0-1NC in the promotion. Eye has suffered five losses under the UFC banner, with four of them coming to those who have either held or challenged for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title.

UFC 238 takes place on Saturday, June 8 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
