Glaico Franca & Chris Curtis Retire At PFL 7

The second season of the PFL has entered playoff territory and two fighters who competed in the welterweight division playoffs at PFL 7 have hung up the fight gloves for good.

Those fighters are Chris Curtis and Glaico Franca, who both made it to the semi-final round of the playoffs before losing and hanging up the gloves.

Franca fought UFC veteran David Michaud in the semi-finals, but suffered a decision loss, which lead to the fighter announcing the retirement and also proposing to his girlfriend (who was watching the event from her home).

Curtis had a vastly different night at PFL 7, which started with a decision loss to Magomed Magomedkerimov in the opening round of the welterweight division playoffs. Curtis would take to social media to announce his retirement, but then it would be revealed that Magomedkerimov suffered an injury and a retired Curtis would un-retire to face Ray Cooper III in the semi-finals. Things would not go well for Curtis, who would suffer a second round knockout loss to Cooper III and then announce his retirement for a second time in one night.

A now retired Curtis would issue the following statement through social media after retiring for a second time in one night (via MMA Fighting): 

“They come back after I’m about to start on some chicken and waffles and they’re like, ‘Oh hey, you’re fighting in like, five minutes. So we get wrapped up and we run out and we were warming up in the hallway, we go out there, I don’t really remember any of this. I remember touching gloves and apparently there was a first round that I don’t recall and then there was part of a second round that I also don’t recall. Now I’m just going to get checked out, I feel fine. Nothing’s wrong. It sucks, but if I’m gonna walk away from the sport, I’d rather walk away like that than the first fight, so hat’s off to Ray Cooper.”
