Derrick Lewis Doesn’t Care If Brock Lesnar Gets A UFC Heavyweight Title Shot
Former UFC Heavyweight Champion and current WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar has been rumored to be returning to the UFC for quite some time now.
Derrick Lewis is ranked #6 in the UFC Heavyweight Division and is close to a potential title shot, but he doesn’t care if the WWE star were to get an opportunity at the gold as well.
“I don’t really care about some damn title,” Lewis told MMA Junkie. “They talking about having Brock Lesnar coming in and fighting the winner out of ‘DC’ and Stipe. It doesn’t piss me off one bit because I’m not in this thing to fight for the belt anyway. I’m in it to fight for the money."
Lesnar won the UFC Heavyweight Title after defeating Randy Couture at UFC 91 and defended it twice before losing it to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121.
Lewis is competing against Francis Ngannou at UFC 226, but he is willing to keep himself ready in case one of the heavyweight title fight competitors falls out of the main event.
“I’ll be on weight,” Lewis said. “I should be under championship weight because it’s going to be summertime and I’m going to be training real hard. But I guess if that does happen, will I get the pay-per-view points?”
UFC 226 takes place on Saturday, July 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
