Dana White Says He “Might Have Something Interesting” For Jorge Masvidal
It has been widely believed that BMF Champion Jorge Masvidal would be next to challenge UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman for the gold.
However, it appears that the title shot will stay out of Masvidal’s grasp for now, as UFC President Dana White says he “might have something interesting” for Masvidal other than the championship fight.
“We’re talking about a few different things,” White said to Brett Okamoto of ESPN (via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “We have something else interesting for Masvidal that we were just talking about yesterday. We’ll see. We’ll see how this whole thing plays out. To start speculating down the road now is too soon. Let’s get by these three fights in Florida and then we’ll figure out what’s next. We’re talking about different possibilities with those guys.”
There is no word at this time as to what could be next for Masvidal, who hasn’t competed since defeating Nate Diaz by third round TKO at UFC 244. Usman, on the other hand, hasn’t competed since defeating former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Colby Covington in the main event of UFC 245.
Masvidal and Leon Edwards now remain as the only fighters in the UFC Welterweight Division to not challenge for or hold the UFC Welterweight Title.
