Big E Says He Was Only Making $500 Per Week When He First Signed With WWE
Big E talks big paydays and the lack thereof when he started in WWE.
Big E and The New Day are some of the top merchandise movers in WWE today. With that comes bigger paydays for the promotion as well as the talent. However, it wasn’t always like this for the current WWE Champion.
Big E started in WWE 12 years ago as part of Florida Championship Wrestling, the resident WWE developmental territory at the time.
During a recent appearance on Breakfast Club, Big E talks about making $500 a week during those days, saying that he now has grown to a point where he is financially comfortable with where he is in WWE.
“I got signed in 2009, I was under WWE contract, but I wasn’t on TV. I was assigned to the developmental system. At that time, I’m making $500 a week. We’re talking $26,000 a year. Not much money. The money definitely went for me when I got to the main roster. We have certain people who might be making $300,000, we also have certain people who are making millions of dollars. I’ve been fortunate enough to be…I’m taken care of.”
This year, Big E accomplished his dream and became WWE Champion. With that WWE Championship not only comes an increase in exposure and potentially pay, but now Big E is closer than ever to a match with Bill Goldberg. Recently, Big E joked that he was the perfect person to take Old Yeller behind the barn. Learn more here.
