Manager Says Conor McGregor Checking Out Safety Precautions At UFC 249, Could Return This July

Former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson and former WSOF Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje will collide for the vacant UFC Interim Lightweight Title this weekend in the main event of UFC 249.

One person who is interested in what goes down this weekend is former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor, as manager Audie Attar says the fighter is checking out the safety precautions the promotion uses during the event.

“Conor is very curious to see whether the health and safety of the athletes and staff are ensured,” Attar told ESPN (via Danny Segura of MMA Junkie). “He wants to make sure everyone is taken care of properly.”

The main reason that McGregor could be focused on the event, outside of the safety precautions, is that he could be readying for a return to the Octagon. Attar also told ESPN that McGregor could be returning to action this July and McGregor believes he could face the winner of the UFC 249 main event. There could be one problem for McGregor, as the winner of the UFC 249 main event is expected to face UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov later this year.
