Audie Attar Says Nate Diaz Needs To Get Conor McGregor Riled Up For Rubber Match
UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz have fought twice, with the series tied at one win apiece between the fighters.
McGregor’s longtime manager in Audie Attar says that the Stockton native needs to get the UFC Lightweight Champion excited for a third fight.
“The Nate Diaz fight interests him,” Attar said on The MMA Hour. “Nate’s sitting on the sidelines (but) you’ve got to get Conor excited. If you want Conor to be excited about you, you gotta go in there and fight, if you want to fight him in the future. Nate Diaz vs. Tony Ferguson for the interim title, that creates narrative. If this thing happens with Floyd, you gotta get Conor excited to get back in there with you.”
Diaz won the initial meeting between the two at UFC 196 and McGregor won the rematch at UFC 202.
When McGregor won the lightweight strap at UFC 205, the UFC promptly stripped him of the UFC Featherweight Title. Although he’s no longer the official featherweight champion, those around McGregor still view him as a double champion.
“I see him being the featherweight and lightweight champion. I think someone has to beat him in order to really claim that from him, in my opinion,” says Attar.
While Diaz hasn’t gone on to fight again since their second match up, the Irishman went on to win the lightweight title at UFC 205.
