Frankie Edgar Wants To Right A Wrong With Chan Sung Jung

Former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar accepted a short notice opportunity to face Chan Sung Jung in the main event of UFC Fight Night Busan.

One reason that Edgar says that he accepted the bout with Jung was to right a previous wrong with the fighter.

“I heard that [Brian] Ortega was hurt and I went to my team and I touched base and I said if you need someone, I’m available,” Edgar explained when speaking to MMA Fighting. “I feel like I was ready. My team liked the fight. Lately, I’m just about experiences and this is a good experience to have in my life. I’ve done a lot in this career. I’ve never taken a fight on two weeks’ notice across the country, so why not add that to the repertoire. It played a part. I felt like we were very familiar with him. We were so close to fighting just a year ago so it wasn’t that far off. We were supposed to fight and I want to right that wrong.”

Edgar and Jung were originally supposed to meet over a year ago at UFC Fight Night Denver, but Edgar pulled out of that bout due to injury.

Cory Sandhagen was originally set to face Edgar before Edgar stepped in at UFC Fight Night Busan, but Edgar is sure they’ll meet down the road one day.

“It sucks. That’s the breaks,” Edgar said. “I’ve definitely been disappointed in this game quite a bit myself. I’m sure I’ll meet him down the road if not in January.”

UFC Fight Night Busan takes place on Saturday, December 21 from the Sakij Arena in Busan, South Korea with Frankie Edgar and Chan Sung Jung headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
