Hip Injury Keeping Dustin Poirier Out Of Action Until 2020

Former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier was last seen in action in the main event of UFC 242, suffering a third round submission loss to UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The fighter recently took to Twitter to reveal that he won’t be able to compete again until early next year:

MMA Fighting spoke with Poirier and the fighter revealed that he will need surgery to repair multiple tears in the labrum area near the hip, plus the former champion is getting a femur bone reshaped to avoid future tears.

Poirier had been angling for a rematch with former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor, which looks to be off for good, or at least until Poirier recovers from the upcoming medical procedures.

It is unknown at this time as to exactly how long Poirier’s recovery will take, but more should be known as the fighter heals up from the forthcoming surgery.
