Bethe Correia Dedicates Latest Win To Sister Battling Cancer
Tatiana Correia is Bethe’s sister, who is also in the midst of a battle against breast cancer, and Bethe dedicated her latest win to Tatiana.
“I was thinking about my sister throughout my entire camp because she was doing chemotherapy, she lost hair, and I really wish I could have been there with her this entire time,” Correia said to MMA Fighting. “I was away from her for three months in camp, following her treatment online, the symptoms she was experiencing, and I saw how strong she was. I was fighting a girl there and she was fighting cancer. That motivated me a lot. That made me stronger. This joy is for her and my family.”
Correia is expected to be back in Brazil soon and by the side of her sister, who is potentially getting a mastectomy shortly.
A victorious Correia also reveals that she nearly pulled out of the bout against Eubanks due to a back injury suffered during training camp.
“I had a complicated training camp,” Correia said. “I had a lower back injury and almost withdrew from the fight. I couldn’t walk for three days. I went to the hospital and people around me wanted me to cancel the fight, but I didn’t let them do it.”
The win for Correia was her first in over three years, as the fighter’s last victory before that came over Jessica Eye at UFC 203.
