Max Holloway Wants Medical Testing Done Before Booking Next Fight
The champion is ready to defend the gold again this year, but wants to get some medical testing done before making any commitments.
“We’ll see what happens,” Holloway said after the event (via Mike Bohn & Ken Hathaway of MMA Junkie). “I look fine, I look great, but I’ll wait to talk to my team and my coaches. I fought three title fights in seven months. I want to fight one more time this year, but we’ve got to take all the right tests and see and we’ll go from there.”
Alexander Volkanovski, who is potentially next for Holloway, was also the backup fighter for the UFC 240 main event in case either champion or challenger couldn’t compete on the card.
Holloway, citing two recent deaths of professional boxers, wants to make sure tragedy doesn’t strike for himself when competing.
“I’ve got this little mini-me (his son) right here. We had some tragedies in combat sports this past week and we want to stay on top of it and go to the doctors. I’m trying to stay around for a long time, not a good time,” says Holloway.
While Holloway does want to get medical testing done, no specific tests were mentioned by the featherweight kingpin.
