Desmond Green’s Attorney Downplays Allegations
UFC fighter Desmond Green was arrested earlier this week and has had twenty charges levied against him for an alleged role in a car crash that left two women dead.
Jaime Benjamin is representing Green on the matter and he says that if the prosecutors cannot prove two key matters in the case, it would show that Green isn’t guilty of anything.
“There isn’t, at this point, any proof that it was his fault, any proof that he was under the influence,” Benjamin told MMA Junkie. “And if those two things can’t be proven, they can charge 1,000 counts, but that doesn’t mean he’s guilty of anything.”
Green did have a blood alcohol level of 0.14 and 25 ng/mL of THC in his system when the crash occurred, plus a marijuana grinder and cocaine were found at the scene as well according to police reports.
Benjamin is planning a vigorous defense of Green, who Benjamin believes may not ever be responsible for the crash at all.
“He has not been found guilty,” Benjamin said. “We’re going to vigorously defend him. They haven’t even proved the crash was his fault. There was a semi-trailer that was all over the road; the semi made contact with Desmond’s vehicle, and it started spinning and struck both those vehicles. We feel awful and have so many feelings for these poor people that perished, but it may not be the fault of the one they tried to accuse.”
The UFC star has competed three times under the UFC banner since the deadly accident, holding a 2-1-0 record at that time.
