Dana White Explains Why UFC 233 Main Event Was Moved To UFC Fight Night Brooklyn

UFC Flyweight Champion Henry Cejudo was expected to defend the gold against UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw in the main event of UFC 233, but that bout will now headline UFC Fight Night Brooklyn.

Dana White says that they wanted to put a big fight on the promotions debut on ESPN, plus its a move that the company has done before.

“We did it last time when we launched, too,” White told MMA Junkie.

That move now leaves UFC 233 with no main event at this time, with former Bellator/One Championship Welterweight Champion Ben Askren making his UFC debut against former UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler in the co-main event.

There seems to be no issue with either Cejudo or Dillashaw after the fight was moved up a week, which is something White was never worried about.

“I don’t worry about a lot of that stuff,” he said. “These guys are professionals. Dillashaw has been around for a long time and knows what he’s doing.”

UFC Fight Night Brooklyn takes place on Saturday, January 19 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York with Henry Cejudo and TJ Dillashaw headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
