Anthony Johnson May Come Out Of Retirement, If Certain Goals Are Met

Anthony Johnson announced his retirement as a professional MMA fighter shortly after suffering a submission loss to two division UFC champion Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 210.

It would appear that the retirement could be coming to an end, as long as certain criteria are met, as Johnson wrote about in a statement posted on Instagram stories:

“Yes it’s true that I’ll come back to mma at heavyweight, but only if Jon fights DC for the title! It’s a personal goal of mine to fight the very best of the best before I truly stop fighting. Jon was always my motivation once I went to 205. Heavyweight would be insane if the 3 of us were at it again!”

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones is back in action next month at UFC 232, facing Alexander Gustafsson for the soon to be vacated UFC Light Heavyweight Title. Jones was recently asked about fighting DC for a third time, but Jones didn’t seem to keen on that taking place.

If Johnson were to return and compete at heavyweight, it would be the fourth weight class (others being welterweight, middleweight and light heavyweight) he has competed in as a professional MMA fighter.
