Report: All Charges Against Volkan Oezdemir Have Been Dropped

Volkan Oezdemir is back in the Octagon next month at UFC 227, facing Alexander Gustafsson in a pivotal light heavyweight division fight.

The light heavyweight contender can enter the bout with a lot less on his mind because all charges stemming from an alleged altercation outside of a Florida bar where the fighter apparently attacked a fellow patron has been dropped.

This is all according to a report from MMA Fighting, which also says the charges were dropped “due to lack of cooperation from the victim.” The trial for Oezdemir was set to begin today, but obviously that won’t be taking place anymore.

Another benefit for Oezdemir after the charges were dropped is that the fighter will get his visa back, which will leave the fighter free to travel around the globe for fighting, training and other purposes. The passport issues caused Oezdemir a pair of bouts against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio Rua, with those bouts being scheduled for UFC Fight Night Hamburg and at UFC Fight Night Chile.

UFC 227 takes place on Saturday, August 4 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California with TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
