Report: Volkan Oezdemir’s Trial Pushed Back To July 9

UFC fighter Volakn Oezdemir was arrested this past November and charged with aggravated battery in connection with a bar room brawl in the state of Florida.

MMA Fighting is now reporting that Oezdemir is getting charged with felony battery with great bodily harm, which is a third-degree felony. The report also states that the trial has also been pushed back to July 9, although no reason has been given as to why this happened. This is also the third time the trial has been pushed back, as it was originally scheduled for May and June of this year.

Bruce Zimet is Oezdemir’s attorney and he believes the trial is going to last less than a week and shouldn’t affect the UFC stars upcoming bout against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 227. Oezdemir has been winless since getting arrested, dropping a bout to UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 220.

Oezdemir has pleaded not guilty against the charges levied against him and his passport was previously surrendered, as Oezdemir is a citizen of Switzerland.

UFC 227 takes place on Saturday, August 4 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California with TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
