Zelina Vega Describes How Rupturing An Implant Caused Her To Miss Several Months In 2022

Zelina Vega discusses her absence from WWE in 2022.

Vega was a prominent member of the Raw roster, and she held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship with Carmella. The duo lost the titles to Naomi and Sasha Banks at WrestleMania 38, and Vega later went down with an injury in May 2022. As a result, she was sidelined for a few months after she reportedly had surgery. She returned on the October 7 episode of WWE SmackDown, where she joined Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, and Cruz Del Toro). Vega subsequently returned to the ring, and she has been featured on WWE SmackDown since her return.

Speaking on Anna Faris Is Unqualified, Vega was asked whether she prefers to be called Zelina or Thea Trinidad. Vega noted that either one was fan, and she brought up that she hadn’t heard her WWE name for a while because she was out with an injury.

“Either one is totally fine. I’m used to hearing Thea, but as of more recently, I had a surgery in May, so from May to October, I was gone on recovery, so I hadn’t heard Zelina in a while. Now I’m hearing it again, I’m like, okay,” Vega said.

Vega continued by describing how the injury happened when she got hit with a Northern Lights Suplex, and her opponent’s shoulder went into her chest. She recalled how the impact ruptured one of her implants. Vega then stated that she looked on the bright side and noted that she had wanted to get bigger implants anyway.

“It never happens on some really cool move or some crazy flip I did outside the ring. It’s always the littlest thing that will happen, and that’s how you get injured. Knock on wood, I actually hadn’t had any serious injuries until that point. It wasn’t even really that bad. This is silly, but one of my best friends and I were in a match, and she had given me this one called a Northern Lights Suplex, where basically she kind of flips me over her backwards, and her shoulder went into my chest, and I ruptured an implant. But me, of course looking on the bright side, I was like, well they are 10 years old anyway, and I kind of wanted them bigger anyway. So it ended up working out. Lately I’m like, ‘I should have gone a little bigger, I don’t know,’ [laughs] why not?’” Vega said.

Vega will be featured in Street Fighter 6 as an in-game commentator. More information is available here.
