The Young Bucks Thought Paul Wight Would Be With WWE For Life

The Young Bucks were shocked to find out that Paul Wight was interested in joining AEW.

Speaking with Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports, the AEW Tag Team Champions were asked how the two sides came together, noting that they learnt of the possibility one month ago after Tony Khan held a meeting with them and Kenny Omega. Like many, they thought Wight would be a lifetime WWE employee.

Here are Nick Jackson’s full remarks:

“So, Tony, I want to say it was about a month ago, he wanted to tell us something. He gathered us up with Kenny, he’s like, ‘hey, what do you guys think of signing the Big Show?’ We’re like, ‘what?’ Our reaction was like, ‘really, I thought he would be a lifetime WWE guy.’ He said, ‘well, he wants to come and play,’ so we’re like, ‘let’s do it.’ So that was pretty much how it all went.”

Matt and Nick joked about having to reintroduce themselves to Wight, who Matt once faced on an episode of SmackDown where he served as an enhancement talent.

AEW announced that Paul Wight (formerly The Big Show in WWE, The Giant in WCW) had signed a long-term deal with the company on February 24. He will be joining Tony Schiavone at the commentary desk for AEW’s upcoming series, Dark: Elevation.

On the March 3 episode of AEW Dynamite, Wight shared that he will be unveiling a new signing at Sunday’s Revolution PPV. Fans have spent the week speculating as to who the “hall of fame level” talent may be.

Fightful will be providing live coverage of the event beginning at 4 PM PST on Sunday, March 7, 2021.
