The Young Bucks On The End Of Their IMPACT Wrestling Run: “These Guys Didn’t Care About Us At All”
The Young Bucks open up about their time in IMPACT Wrestling.
Before Matt and Nick Jackson became two of the biggest Independent stars in wrestling, they were Generation Me in TNA/IMPACT Wrestling from 2009 to 2011. The duo didn’t gain much traction in the company and requested their release in July 2011 due to frustrations with money and creative direction.
Appearing on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, the Young Bucks discussed the end of their run with IMPACT Wrestling.
They split us up and we became singles acts for two months. Then, for no reason at all we got back together and nothing was explained by it,” said Nick. “After that, Matt and I were like, ‘These guys don’t care about us at all.’ We felt like the wright was on the wall. We were thinking ‘maybe we go elsewhere and then come back and maybe then they will take us serious.'”
Matt continued, “We were on bad deals too. It was the first contracts we’d ever signed. We learned a lot from that. It was the first contract we were ever offered so immediately, without negotiating, we just signed it, blindly. Basically, we were getting paid-per-appearance. And they decided to sit us at home for very long periods of time, which meant we were making $0 some months.”
Nick followed up by stating, “Some weeks, they would fly one of us in that wasn’t even working on the show. So we would be in Florida and not being paid because they forgot to book us. But they would have us fly there. I’m like, ‘Wait a minute. I’m flying here. Doesn’t that count as work?’ They were like, ‘Nope, you’ve got to be on TV to make money.”
The Bucks would return to TNA/IMPACT in 2013 for a couple of cameo matches. They are currently under contract to ROH, although their deals expire at the end of this year, making them free agents. In the same interview, the Bucks stated that they have an offer on the table from every major company.
