WWE Women’s Tournament Set To Air in Early 2017
The WWE Women's Revolution is about to reach another milestone as PWInsider is reporting that the long rumored all-women's tournament is going to air on the WWE Network in early 2017.
It appears that the format will be very similar, if not identical to the Cruiserweight Classic that WWE had earlier this year. It is set to be filmed at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida where the NXT weekly show is taped and where the CWC was filmed as well.
WWE has reached out to several well-known women wrestlers on the independent scene including, but not limited to, Heidi Lovelace, Nixon Newell, Kimber Lee and Evie. WWE are looking to include Deonna Purrazzo and the daughter of Author's of Pain manager, Paul Ellering; Rachel Ellering. There has been talk of WWE bringing in Japanese Joshi stars such as Io Shirai and Kairi Hojo for NXT, but it appears that they will be staying put in Shimmer. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported earlier this month that they have started a new angle together, but that doesn't mean that they could not get them for the tournament seeing as Kota Ibushi was in the Cruiserweight Classic and made appearances on NXT even though he never ended up signing with WWE full time.
There is no word on whether any of the current NXT women's division will participate in the tournament. However, it does appear that the women who will be participating in the tournament are set to report to the WWE Performance Center at some time in January.
