WWE Women’s Tournament To Be Aired Weekly, Similar To Cruiserweight Classic
WWE's Cruiserweight Classic was revered by fans and critics last year and WWE is hoping lightning can strike twice with their upcoming Women's Tournament.
Just like the Cruiserweight Classic, WWE is planning on taping and airing their Women's Tournament over an 8-11 week span, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Even though there are no confirmed names as of this writing, several women have been rumored to participate in the tournament, such as STARDOM stars Toni Storm and Io Shirai. Other names such as Tessa Blanchard and Jinny are also expected to be involved. Nixon Newell and Kairi Hojo also scheduled to start with WWE around that time and will likely be involved.
The idea is to come out of the tournament and start a weekly show for the women, similar to 205 Live for the Cruiserweights on the WWE Network.
The women’s tournament is to be taped and broadcasted on the WWE Network throughout the summer. The field has been confirmed to have 32 participants, like the Cruiserweight Classic, who will be coming from 17 countries.
The tournament is the third WWE Network Exclusive tournament in the past year, with the Cruiserweight Classic being held last summer and the WWE United Kingdom Tournament this past January.
