WWE Smackdown! Live Results for 7/17 Shinsuke Nakamura Defends His United States Championship in a Rematch Against Jeff Hardy!
Newly crowned champion Shinsuke Nakamura defends his United States Championship in a rematch against the former champion Jeff Hardy!
Good evening and welcome to our live coverage for tonight’s edition of SmackDown! Live! Enjoy the show and feel free to talk down before with fellow Fightful faithful!
-Jeff Hardy comes out to start the show and talks about his match against Shinsuke Nakamura this past Sunday at Extreme Rules where he lost his United States Championship from a low blow before the match even started and a Kinshasa. Jeff then says that he’s going to win the belt back before leaving as we cut to Shinsuke watching in the back. Shinsuke is then interviewed where he fake cries and says that the belt is his and tonight he will make Jeff cry and compares him to a clown. AJ Styles then comes out to the ring next as we go to commercial.
AJ Styles vs Andrade Almas
Almas puts AJ in a side headlock before hitting an arm drag and another side headlock before AJ gets out of it and misses a dropkick as we go to commercial.
AJ hits a low flying forearm as we come back to the action before they exchange strikes and Almas hits a backbreaker for a quick two count. Almas catches AJ up top before AJ hits an ushigaroshi and teases a Styles Clash before Almas counters a Phenomenal Forearm. Almas hits a moonsault for a quick two count before AJ catches him up top with a Pele kick, but Almas hits a diving double foot stomp and running knees in the corner for a near fall. AJ then counters the hammer lock DDT into the Calf Killer for the tap and the win.
Winner: AJ Styles defeats Andrade Almas via submission with the Calf Killer.
Becky Lynch vs Mandy Rose
Mandy misses a kick before Becky hits one, then Sonya distracts her before Mandy capitalizes and beats on her in the corner. Mandy suplexes Becky for a quick two count before putting her in a cravat that Becky gets out of only to be dropped with a boot for a quick two count. Becky then hits an exploder suplex before locking in the Disarmer for the tap and the win.
Winner: Becky Lynch defeats Mandy Rose via submission with the Disarmer.
Tye Dillinger vs Samoa Joe
Tye attacks Joe before they end up out of the ring and Tye beats on Joe at ringside before Joe sends Tye into the ring post. Joe rolls Tye back into the ring and hits a running back elbow in the corner into an enzuigiri before dropping him with knees. Joe then locks in the Coquina Clutch until Tye taps out for the referee stoppage and the win.
Winner: Samoa Joe defeats Tye Dillinger via submission with the Coquina Clutch
-The Miz comes out to the ring to have a fake funeral for Team Hell No after their defeat and Kane’s injury at Extreme Rules. Daniel then comes out and runs Miz off before we cut to the back where New Day make their way out to the ring as we go to commercial.
Kofi Kingston vs Eric Young
They lock up to start the match before exchanging wrist locks, then Kofi kicks Eric before hitting a dropkick. Kofi then hits a springboard clothesline that sends Eric out of the ring as he regroups with the rest of SANITY as we head to break.
Kofi sends Eric face first into the second turnbuckle before sending him back out of the ring as we come back to the action. Eric hits a hangman neckbreaker for a quick two count before choking him from the top and rolling him up for a near fall. Kofi hits a tope to the outside and takes out the entirety of SANITY before rolling Eric back into the ring for a quick two count. Kofi then gets distracted by Dain before Eric hits Youngblood for the pin and the win.
Winner: Eric Young defeats Kofi Kingston via pinfall with Youngblood.
United States Championship Match
Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs Jeff Hardy
Jeff sends Shinsuke out of the ring almost immediately before hitting a diving clothesline into the barricade and rolls him back into the ring where he goes for a Swanton, but Shinsuke rolls out of the ring on the other side as we go to commercial.
Shinsuke gets a series of quick two counts as we come back from commercial before hitting Bad Vibrations and locks in a front choke and several knees. Jeff comes back and smashes Shinsuke’s face into all of the top turnbuckles before hitting a jumping splash for a quick two count. Jeff gets a near fall before Shinsuke sends him into the corner and dropkicks him in the back before draping him over the apron and hitting a running knee as we head to break.
Jeff catches Shinsuke coming in and hits Whisper in the Wind for a near fall before dropping him with a series of forearms and a leg drop. Shinsuke hits his signature running knees with Jeff draped over the top rope before hitting a sliding knee strike for a near fall. Jeff then counters a Kinshasa with a slingblade before hitting a Twist of Fate and a Swanton Bomb for a very close near fall that Randy Orton breaks up. The referee is then forced to call for the bell as Randy attacks Jeff.
Winner: Jeff Hardy defeats Shinsuke Nakamura via disqualification therefore Shinsuke Nakamura retains his United States Championship due to champions advantage.
