WWE Pulls Kurt Angle From WrestleCade Due To Alleged Associations With AEW
Kurt Angle will no longer be appearing at WrestleCade later this year.
WrestleCade Weekend Co-Owner Brian Hawks told YES! Weekly that WWE has pulled Kurt Angle from their event in Winston-Salem “because we are associated with AEW.”
WWE recently pulled Angle, and The Undertaker, from Starrcast II in May over Starrcast’s close proximity to AEW Double or Nothing. As of now, AEW is not scheduled to hold an event in Winston-Salem on Nov. 29-30 or Dec. 1, which is when WrestleCade is scheduled for. There is no known association between WrestleCade and AEW. No members of the AEW roster have been announced for the event.
Event creator Tracy Myers said, “In our 8 year history, the announcement of Angles appearance was one of our most popular. We were obviously excited and so were the fans. Then out of the blue, we received an email saying that Kurt had to cancel his WrestleCade Weekend appearance because WWE told him it competes directly with them. While I had read that WWE had pulled both Angle and The Undertaker from the Starrcast 2 event being held in Las Vegas May 23-26, I was still shocked. An agreement was in place with Kurt, the requested deposit was paid and the marketing blitz was in full swing. Now the fans are being penalized and it’s heartbreaking.”
Myers confirmed that the deposit for Angle was returned immediately. WWE reportedly did not offer a replacement.
