WWE NXT Results for 4/29/20 The Queen & The Limitless One Overcome the Odds

It’s an action packed edition of WWE NXT with both the North American and the NXT Women’s titles are on the line tonight at 8pm EST!

– We open the show with a recap of the results of the Interim Cruiserweight Championship Tournament so far.

Interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament Group B Match

Isaiah “Swerve” Scott vs El Hijo Del Fantasma

They lock up before Hijo gets two off of a jack knife cover before taking Swerve down and getting two off of a cradle. They sweep each other before Scott hits a head scissors into a dropkick before Fantasma rolls out of the ring. Hijo hits an enzuigiri to Scott at ringside before tossing him back into the ring and kicking him in the chest. Swerve hits a frankensteiner for two before Hijo comes back with a running hurricanrana and goes for a baseball slide, but Scott kicks him in the face as we go to commercial.

We come back to Swerve in control of Hijo on the mat until he gets to his feet and sends Swerve out onto the apron and Swerve goes for a diving cross body, but Hijo rolls through and hits a basement dropkick. Hijo chops Swerve in the corner and sets him on the top turnbuckle before hitting a frankensteiner and a frog splash for two. They exchange strikes until Scott nearly knocks Hijo out with a right hand and hits a dead lift German suplex. Hijo rolls out of the ring and hits a suicide dive when Scott misses a tope before rolling him back into the ring. They then counter each other until Scott wins with a crucifix for the pin and the win.

Winner:Isaiah Scott defeats El Hijo Del Fantasma via pinfall, Scott and Fantasma ending up at 1-1 each in the round robin tournament.

– Scott is then interviewed after the match before we get a graphic for the NXT champion Adam Cole later tonight as well as Candice LeRae in action up next as we go to commercial.

– We come back from commercial to a promo by Dominik Dijakovic outside in nature talking about Johnny Gargano ahead of their match next week before we get a video from during the break where Hijo fought off would be abductors in masks for a second week in a row.

Candice LeRae w/Johnny Gargano vs Kacy Catanzaro

Candice backs Kacy into the corner for a clean break before they have a test of strength that Candice wins. Kacy hits a head scissors before Candice hits a snap mare into a neckbreaker and Kacy comes back with a slingshot senton for two. Candice hits a side slam before locking in a rear chin lock and hits a facebuster for two before beating on Kacy in the corner. Candice then hits her finisher for the pin and the win.

Winner: Candice LeRae defeats Kacy Catanzaro via pinfall.

– After the match Candice locks in the Gargano Escape before the referee pulls her off and she and Johnny leave before we go to a backstage promo with Damian Priest ahead of his title challenge later tonight as we go to commercial.

– Timothy Thatcher and Matt Riddle come out onto the stage before they have an impromptu game show akin to the Newlywed Game called the Newly-Bros Show in which they answer questions about each other. They’re then attacked and laid out by Aichner and Barthel of Imperium who hold the tag belts up high before draping them across Tim before we go backstage to Mia Yim making her way out for her challenge against Charlotte up next as we go to commercial.

– We come back to a video package WWE’s work with Make a Wish before before we go to our next match for the NXT Women’s Championship before we go backstage to a promo by NXT champion Adam Cole before it’s announced that Cole will defend his title next week against The Velveteen Dream.

NXT Women’s Championship Match

Charlotte (c) vs Mia Yim

Charlotte drives Mia into the corner for a clean break before putting her in a standing side headlock and drops her with chops. Mia comes back with a flurry of strikes before hitting a cannonball in the corner before following up with a DDT for two. Charlotte sends Mia into the ropes where she hangs before Charlotte rocks her with a forearm when she goes for a suicide dive as we go to commercial.

We come back to Charlotte sending Mia out of the ring before she gets back in and Charlotte chops and chokes her in the corner. Mia locks in a tarantula in the ropes before hitting eat defeat and Charlotte hits a backbreaker into a flat liner into the turnbuckle. Mia counters a moonsault into a Code Blue before rocking Charlotte with kicks, Charlotte locking in a Boston crab before now counters into a pin for a near fall. Charlotte drops Mia with a boot for a near fall before Mia counters a figure four into a roll up for a near fall. Charlotte then manages to lock in the Figure Eight for the tap and the win.

Winner: Charlotte retains her title by defeating Mia Yim via submission.

– After the match Charlotte is almost immediately interrupted by Io Shirai before they face off and Charlotte leaves as we go to commercial after a video package for Killer Kross (now Karrion Kross) and Scarlett (Bordeaux) who will be debuting next week.

– We come back to Kacy Catanzaro being checked on by a trainer backstage before we get an update on Finn Bálor who be on next week’s show before we go to the ring for our next match.

Dexter Lumis vs Shane Thorne

Shane chops Lumis, but he’s not phased before Lumis hits a Thesz press and punches Shane in mount. Lumis drops Shane with a right hand before punching him in the corner and Shane comes back with kicks. Lumis throws Shane away when he goes for a tornado DDT before Shane rocks him with kicks and hits a cannonball in the corner. Lumis catches Shane coming in and hits a spinebuster before hitting a sit-out uranage into a cobra clutch before Shane passes out for the referee stoppage and the win.

Winner: Dexter Lumis defeats Shane Thorne via referee stoppage.

– After the match we get a graphic for a tweet by the Cruiserweight champion Jordan Devlin before we get a video of Jake Atlas talking to Drake Maverick outside as we cut to Drake getting ready for his tournament match up next as we go to commercial.

– We come back to a backstage promo by the North American champion Keith Lee who seeks revenge against Damian Priest for attacking him in their title match later tonight in our main event.

Drake Maverick vs Tony Nese

Tony muscles Drake down and flexes before mocking Drake and driving him into the corner before hitting him with right hands in the corner until he collapses in a heap under the bottom rope. Tony hits a snap mare into a PK to the spine before slamming him onto the mat and dropping him with a thrust to the throat. Tony then snaps Drake’s throat across the top rope as we go to commercial.

We come back to Tony in control of a grounded Drake before he gets to his feet and Tony hits another snap mare into a PK. Tony screams at Drake before he comes back with right hands and a basement dropkick in the corner before hitting a missile dropkick. Tony counters a shiranui before suplexing Drake into the corner and Drake gets out of the way of the Running Nese. Drake hits a shiranui for a near fall before he goes up top and misses a diving elbow drop. Drake then crotches Tony when he climbs to the top before hitting a top rope bulldog for the pin and the win.

Winner: Drake Maverick defeats Tony Nese via pinfall to go up 1-1 in the tournament, Tony Nese falling to 0-2.

– Drake is then interviewed after the match before we get a graphic for our North American Championship main event and a video package for the champion and challenger as we go to commercial.

– We come back to the announcement of Charlotte defending her title against Io Shirai next week as well as Johnny Gargano versus Dominik Dijakovic and another graphic for the NXT Championship match between Adam Cole and Velveteen Dream.

NXT North American Championship Match

Keith Lee (c) vs Damian Priest

Keith takes control early and clotheslines Priest over the top rope before picking him up and throwing him onto the apron. Priest then goes to smash Keith’s face into the steps, but he’s blocked before Damian side steps Keith who spears the barricade as we go to commercial.

We come back to the action in the ring to Damian now in control, hitting a jumping back elbow in the corner before countering a suplex attempt into a neckbreaker for two. Damian rocks Lee before he’s launched backwards into the corner and the champion comes back with strikes and a high angle uranage. Lee hits a sling twisting senton before tossing Priest back into the ring for two before hitting a lariat for another two count. Priest counters a powerbomb and goes for a chokeslam before countering one by Lee and they exchange strikes until Priest hits Lee with a falcon arrow. Lee rolls out of the ring and onto the apron before Priest hits a suicide dive over the post in the corner and tosses the champion back into the ring.

Priest goes up top and hits a diving wheel kick for two before Lee drops him with a headbutt and he catches Lee with an enzuigiri. Lee hits a dead lift superplex for a near fall before Priest hits a sit-out choke bomb and grabs the title and his night stick. Lee then stops Priest from hitting him with the stick before handing it to the referee and hitting two powerbombs for the pin and the win.

Winner: Keith Lee retains his North American Championship by defeating Damian Priest via pinfall.
