WWE NXT Results for 4/15/20 The Prince is Victorious, Undisputed Era Fail to Win Tag Titles
The Prince clashes with one fourth of Imperium tonight at 8pm EST on USA Network!
Good evening Fight Fans and welcome to our coverage of tonight’s edition of WWE NXT!
– We open the show with a recap of the end of the match last week between Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa before we go to the arena for our opening contest between Finn Balor and Imperium’s Fabian Aichner.
Finn Balor vs Fabian Aichner w/Marcel Barthel
Fabian takes Finn down before Finn gets back to his feet and gets two off of a sunset flip before chopping Fabian in the corner and a reverse DDT before Marcel gets on the apron and Finn just ignores him and hits a wrecking ball dropkick through the ropes as we go to commercial.
We come back to Finn in control of Fabian before Finn gets distracted by Marcel and Fabian hits a backbreaker before stomping Finn in the corner and whipping him across the ring into the opposite corner before chopping him in the corner. Finn comes back with chops and right hands into a snap mare and a kick to the spine before Fabian clotheslines him for two before Finn counters a powerbomb and hits a jumping stomp into a sling blade. Finn hits Marcel from the apron before Fabian rolls Finn up for two and hits a one armed powerbomb before Finn rolls out of the ring and Marcel hits him when the referee is busy with Fabian before Finn rolls out of the way when Fabian goes to hit him with a running knee with Finn against the steps. Finn hits Marcel with a sling blade before hitting a shotgun dropkick and Fabian sends Finn face first into the apron before missing a triangle moonsault before Finn hits a running shotgun dropkick into the Coup de Grace before finishing with the 1916 for the pin and the win.
Winner: Finn Balor defeats Fabian Aichner via pinfall.
– After the match Finn cuts a promo on the ramp and tells WALTER that the victory serves as a preview of his victory over WALTER whenever they face off before we see Velveteen Dream lying on his couch backstage waiting for the NXT champion Adam Cole to arrive before we go to a graphic for the newly crowned NXT Women’s champion Charlotte who will be in the building later tonight as we go to Commercial.
– We come back from commercial to the announcement of Tegan Nox versus Raquel Gonzalez for later tonight before we go to a video where Charlotte talks about how she called her shot and what it’s like to be a two time NXT Women’s champion before we go to the ring for our next match between Aliyah and Xia Li.
Xia Li vs Aliyah
Xia immediately goes after Aliyah who quickly rolls out of the ring to escape before Xia chases her around the ring and they get back into the ring where Aliyah uses the referee as a shield before she drops Xia with a boot for two. Aliyah hits a Thesz press and punches Xia in mount before locking in a rear chin lock. Xia catches Aliyah with a back elbow before she drops her with clothesline and a superkick into a running shotgun dropkick. Xia then hits a twisting spin kick to a grounded Aliyah for the pin and the win.
Winner: Xia Li defeats Aliyah via pinfall.
– After the match we get a video package for the NXT Cruiserweight Interim Championship Tournament that is set to kick off tonight with Isaiah Scott versus Akira Tozawa later tonight as we go to commercial.
– We come back to Matt Riddle on the phone in the locking room on the phone with Pete Dunne who won’t tell him who his partner will be in their title defense later tonight before we go back to the arena for our next match between Isaiah Scott and Akira Tozawa.
NXT Interim Cruiserweight Championship Tournament Opening Round Group B Match
Isaiah Scott vs Akira Tozawa
They run the ropes and exchange strikes until Akira boots Isaiah over the top rope and down onto the floor before Akira chokes him in the ropes when he tries to get back into the ring and they exchange strikes on the apron. Akira tosses Isaiah off of the apron before Isaiah hits a hurricanrana off of the apron and onto the floor as we go to commercial.
We come back to the two running the ropes before Akira locks in an octopus stretch and Isaiah counters it before Akira turns it into a dragon suplex and Isaiah counters that before Akira locks in a guillotine and Isaiah turns it into a suplex. Akira then goes for a German suplex before Isaiah hits the House Call for a near fall and Akira hits an overhead belly to belly suplex into the corner before hitting a high angle senton for the pin and the win.
Winner: Akira Tozawa defeats Isaiah Scott via pinfall to advance to the next round of the tournament.
– After the match we get a post-match interview with Akira Tozawa before we see Velveteen Dream again and we get a graphic for Nox and Gonzalez which is up next as we go to commercial.
Tegan Nox vs Raquel Gonzalez w/Dakota Kai
Raquel rushes Tegan as soon as the match starts before countering a waist lock takedown and hits two shoulder blocks while holding Tegan in the air before hitting a backbreaker. Raquel wrenches the neck of Tegan before whipping her into the corner. Raquel then lays into Tegan with punches in the corner before Kai hits a running boot off of the distraction by Raquel for a near fall before Shotzi Blackheart comes out and distracts Raquel before Tegan rolls her up for the pin and the win.
Winner: Tegan Nox defeats Raquel Gonzalez via pinfall.
– After the match we get a graphic for Keith Lee up next as we go to commercial.
– We come back to a video package narrated by Keith Lee about the beginning of his career on his way to becoming the North American champion before we go back to the ring for Dexter Lumis versus Tehuti Miles.
Dexter Lumis vs Tehuti Miles
Dexter man handles Tehuti and beats on him before Tehuti comes back with several dropkicks and rocks Dexter with an uppercut only to be hit with a high angle spinebuster for his troubles before Dexter lifts him off of the mat by his hair and hits a sit-out uranage into a choke for the tap and the win.
Winner: Dexter Lumis defeats Tehuti Miles via submission.
– We then go to Adam Cole where he says that no one in NXT deserves a title shot and that Bobby and Roddy are going to bring the tag belts back to the Undisputed Era before the Velveteen Dream comes out to a podium on the stage where he cuts a promo on Adam Cole before he’s interrupted by Finn Balor who tells Dream that he doesn’t know him and that he doesn’t like him before threatening Dream and Dream challenges Finn to a match for next week’s show before we go to a graphic for the tag team title match up next as we go to commercial.
– We come back to Malcolm Bivens and Indus Shera who say that they have their sights set on whoever wins tonight’s tag title match before it’s announced that we will have three more Cruiserweight championship tournament matches next week as well as Nox and Blackheart against Gonzalez and Kai.
NXT Tag Team Championship Match
Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher (c) vs Undisputed Era (Roderick Strong & Bobby Fish)
Before the match Pete shows up on the screen and introduces Matt’s partner before Timothy Thatcher comes out to the ring and UE scatter once he enters. Once the match starts Matt and Bobby get things started off by feinting kicks before Matt takes Bobby down and they grapple on the mat until Matt goes for a submission and Bobby rolls into the ropes for the break before escaping out onto the apron. Bobby slows gets back into the ring and stops Matt from taking him down before Matt takes his back and goes for an armbar before they counter each other until Matt hits a t-bone suplex and Bobby rolls out of the ring as Roddy regroups with him as we go to commercial.
We come back to Tim taking Roddy down and focusing on joint manipulation before he goes for an ankle lock and Roddy grabs the ropes briefly before Tim turns it into a bow and arrow and a pinning predicament for two. Roddy comes back and drags Tim to his corner where Bobby hits a snap mare into a slingshot senton for one before they grapple on the mat, Bobby repeatedly going for chokes before Tim drives his knee into his ribs and Bobby drives Tim into the corner. Roddy comes back in and Tim drops him with a back elbow before Matt gets the tag and hits a running forearm in the corner into a butterfly suplex by Tim before Matt hts a PK into a running senton for two. Matt hits several gut wrench suplexes before Bobby comes in and Matt and Tim hit stereo gut wrench suplexes before Matt hits an assisted corkscrew senton for two before Bobby distracts Matt from the apron and Roddy hits him from behind. Roddy suplexes Matt into the corner and UE double up on Matt and send him out of the ring before sending him into the steps as we see Dexter Lumis at ringside before they roll him back into the ring. Roddy then hits an assisted Olympic slam for two as we go to commercial.
We return to UE in control of Matt and isolate him in the corner until he fights them off and Tim suplexes both members of UE before dropping Roddy with uppercuts and an enzuigiri before he goes for a submission and Roddy grabs the ropes for the immediate break. Tim drops Roddy with an open hand palm strike before Roddy comes back with kicks and gets the tag to Bobby who hits a running cross body for two before UE hit a double team move for a near fall. Matt then takes out Bobby before Roddy rocks Tim with a high knee lift and Tim quickly takes Roddy down and submits him with a variation of a Fujiwara armbar for the tap and the win.
Winner: Timothy Thatcher and Matt Riddle defeat Undisputed Era via submission thus Matt and Pete Dunne retain their titles.
– After the match we go to Tommaso Ciampa who says that he’s done with Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae and that Johnny was the better man before he’s attacked from behind and laid out by Killer Kross who lies down next to him and says “Tick tock.” as we go off the air.
