WWE NXT Results for 2/12/20 Cruiserweight Championship Number One Contender Match
Two former champions clash for a shot at the gold tonight at 8pm EST on USA Network!
Good evening Fight Fans and welcome to our coverage of tonight’s edition of WWE NXT! We hope you enjoy the show and be sure to stick around afterwards for the post-show podcast!
-We open the show with a recap of last week’s show where Velveteen Dream returned at the end of the show.
-Roderick Strong comes out to the ring to start the show and talks about his feud with Velveteen Dream and how it’s personal. Strong demands an apology before he’s interrupted by Bronson Reed who is upset over him attacking him last week.
Roderick Strong vs Bronson Reed
Reed attacks Strong and hits a scoop slam into an elbow drop before they exchange chops around the ring. Reed whips Strong across the ring and hits a side slam before dropping him with a headbutt, Strong coming back with chops and forearms before hitting mounted punches in the corner. Reed tears at the face of Strong and beats him down before whipping him into the corner several times for two. Reed focuses on the back of the Messiah of the Backbreaker before Strong rolls out of the ring and Reed hits a diving shoulder block off of the apron as we go to commercial.
We come back to Reed in control, dropping Strong repeatedly before hitting a running clothesline and a running hip attack in the corner for two. Reed turns Strong inside out with a lariat before hitting a powerslam into a running senton before Strong catches him ascending the top turnbuckle. Strong hits an enzuigiri into a superplex for a near fall before hitting a wrecking ball dropkick and Dream’s lights come on and Reed hits a suicide dive. Strong then catches Reed coming off of the top rope with a jumping knee lift for the pin and the win.
Winner: Roderick Strong defeats Bronson Reed via pinfall.
-Dream then shows up on the big screen and says that he’s going to take care of Strong’s wife which enrages Strong before he shows off custom tights with their faces on it. We then get a video package for the Broserweights ahead of their match for the tag titles at Takeover: Portland as we go to commercial.
-We come back to an interview with Angel Garza ahead of his number one contender match against Lio Rush in tonight’s main event before Rush shows up and they exchange words.
Candice LeRae vs Dakota Kai
Candice goes right after Kai before Kai nearly takes her out with a running boot in the corner and Candice sends Kai out of the ring before hitting several topes. Candice tosses Kai back into the ring and hits a missile dropkick for two before Kai sends LeRae into the second rope and kicks her before choking her in the corner. They fight on the top turnbuckle before Kai chokes LeRae in the ropes and sends her crashing down off of the apron onto the floor as we go to commercial.
We then come back to the ring to Kai in control until Candice hits a high angle German suplex and locks in a submission before Kai wins via pinfall out of nowhere.
Winner: Dakota Kai defeats Candice LeRae via pinfall.
-After the match LeRae goes after Kai before Kai hits her with the ring bell and Candice is saved by Tegan Nox before they’re separated by security. We then see a video of Johnny Gargano getting into it with Cameron Grimes before they’re separated ahead of their match up next as we go to commercial after a video package breaking down the card for Takeover: Portland.
Johnny Gargano vs Cameron Grimes
Cameron takes Johnny down before he hops back up and locks in an Indian death lock before Grimes gets to the ropes for the break. Johnny locks in a double armbar with a chin bar before Cameron comes back with a straight armbar and Johnny hits a huricanrrana into a dropkick. Johnny sends Grimes out of the ring and hits a cannonball off of the apron before chopping him at ringside and playing to the crowd. Johnny then tosses Cameron back. Into the ring before Grimes counters a slingshot DDT and drops Johnny as we go to commercial.
Cameron hits a bridging German suplex for two before they counter each other until Johnny hits a flat liner and turns Cameron inside out before he rolls out of the ring and Johnny hits a slingshot spear for two. They exchange pins before Grimes hits a sit-out uranage and exchange strikes before running the ropes until Cameron hits a Spanish fly for a near fall. Johnny then locks in the Gargano Escape and forces Grimes to tap for the win.
Winner: Johnny Gargano defeats Cameron Grimes via submission with the Gargano Escape.
-After the match we go backstage to the NXT champion Adam Cole being interviewed as Roderick Strong paces just outside of camera shot. We then have Pete and Matt transporting their trophy on a paddle boat as we go to commercial.
-We come back to a promo by Robert Stone and Chelsea Green before it’s announced that Dream and Strong will face off next week.
NXT Cruiserweight Championship Number One Contender Match
Angel Garza vs Lio Rush
They run the ropes and dodge each other until Angel hits a shotgun dropkick before setting Lio on the top turnbuckle backwards and putting him in the tree of woe. Angel hits a running PK in the corner for two before Lio counters a piledriver onto the apron and Angel dodges a moonsault off of the apron before draping Lio over the barricade as we go to commercial.
We come back to Lio hitting a spinning enzuigiri for two before Angel catches a kick and rocks Lio with a high knee before Angel hits an inside out face buster for two. Lio counters an avalanche wing clipper into a diving stunner for two before Angel rolls out of the ring to avoid the cover before Lio hits a frog splash off of the top and onto Angel onto the floor. Lio rolls Angel back into the ring and goes for The Final Hour, but Angel gets his knees up before Lio counters the wing clipper for the pin and the win.
Winner: Lio Rush defeats Angel Garza via pinfall to become the new number one contender for Jordan Devlin’s Cruiserweight Championship.
-After the match Jordan Devlin comes out and has an exchange with Lio on the stage before leaving. We then get a video package for the NXT North American champion Keith Lee narrated by WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry as we go to commercial.
Bianca Belair vs Santana Garrett
Bianca spears Santana and beats her down before hitting a moonsault and the KOD for the pin and the win.
Winner: Bianca Belair defeats Santana Garrett via pinfall.
-After the match Bianca cuts a promo about her challenge of Rhea Ripley for the NXT Women’s Championship at Takeover: Portland before she’s interrupted by the champion.Rhea then gets into the ring and Bianca hits her with the KOD. We then have the next chapter in the saga of Pete and Matt trying to get their trophy to Portland, this time via Triple H‘s private jet as we go to commercial.
-We come back to Tommaso Ciampa watching a video of him with the NXT Championship where he talks about his goal of getting the belt back and defeating Adam Cole at Takeover: Portland.
KUSHIDA vs Adam Cole
KUSHIDA takes Adam down before spinning around on his back, Adam getting out of the ring before KUSHIDA hits a baseball slide and Adam sends him into steps. KUSHIDA hits a flying armbar when Adam jumps off of the apron before they get back into the ring and KUSHIDA hits a diving clothesline. KUSHIDA focuses on the arm of the NXT champion before sending Adam out onto the apron and dropping him with a rolling kick before Adam superkicks him at ringside as we go to commercial.
We return to KUSHIDA hitting a hand spring back elbow before hitting a hip toss into a cartwheel dropkick and a rolling kick when Adam gets on the top turnbuckle. KUSHIDA locks in another armbar, but Adam is quick to the ropes for the break before KUSHIDA hits a PK and Adam hits a shining wizard for a near fall. They exchange strikes until Adam hits two ushigaroshi for a near fall and superkicks KUSHIDA for another near fall. KUSHIDA counters the Panama Sunrise into the Hoverboard Lock before Adam gets a near fall off of a roll up and they exchange near falls. KUSHIDA hits a Pele kick before hitting Kawada kicks and Adam superkicks KUSHIDA in the spine for a near fall. Adam then hits the Last Shot for the pin and the win.
Winner: Adam Cole defeats KUSHIDA via pinfall with the Last Shot.
-After the match Ciampa comes out and gets into the ring and goes toe to toe with Adam before saying that he takes his life back at Takeover: Portland as we go off the air.
