WWE NXT Results for 10/9/19 New NXT Cruiserweight Champion Crowned, WALTER Remains Undefeated
The Philadelphia Stretcher defends his title against the Man of the Hour and KUSHIDA and WALTER clash at 8pm EST on USA Network!
Good evening Fight Fans, and welcome to our coverage of tonight’s edition of WWE NXT featuring a huge main event match for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship! Enjoy the show and be sure to check out the post-show podcast afterwards!
-We open the show with recap of last week’s show where all three of the champions and teams retained their titles as well as the return of Finn Bálor and Tommaso Ciampa.
NXT Cruiserweight Championship Match
Drew Gulak (c) vs Lio Rush
They rush each other before Lio hits a Spanish fly and a suicide dive into an Asai moonsault before Drew counters a slingshot DDT and tosses Lio away. Lio rolls up Drew before Drew counters into a cross face and knees Lio in the midsection before getting a two count off of a rolling crucifix, Lio comes back with right hands and chops before Drew comes back with a scoop slam for a two count. Drew sets Lio on the top turnbuckle and hits an enzuigiri that knocks him off of the top and down onto the floor as we go to commercial.
Drew catches a kick and turns Lio inside out with a lariat for a near fall before they go back and forth and Lio gets a near fall off of a roll up. Drew then counters a rebound cutter into the Gulock before Lio rolls back and Drew rolls out of the way off of a frog splash, but Lio hits it on the second attempt for the pin and the win.
Winner: Lio Rush defeats Drew Gulak via pinfall with a frog splash to become the new NXT Cruiserweight champion.
-After the match NXT General Manager William Regal puts the belt on Lio before he and Drew shake hands and Drew leaves before we get a vignette for tonight’s main event between KUSHIDA and WALTER and a video package for the returning Finn Bálor.
-We get a video package for Tegan Nox ahead of her return next week.
Rhea Ripley vs Aliyah w/Vanessa Borne
Rhea shoves Aliyah into the corner before hitting wrist lock lariats and a dropkick into a spinning double leg sharpshooter and a sit-out facebuster with the hold still on for the pin and the win.
Winner: Rhea Ripley defeats Aliyah via pinfall with a sit-out facebuster.
-After the match Rhea calls out NXT Women’s champion Shayna Baszler and says that she’s coming for her before we’re told about the press conference this Friday, presumably to announce matches for Crown Jewel.
-We see Breezango come out to the ring before Jaxson Ryker drags their opponents out onto the ramp and he’s accompanied by Cutler and Blake.
Breezango vs The Forgotten Sons
Steve and Dango start the match off, Steve hitting a backbreaker and stomping Dango in the corner before FS double up on Dango for several two counts. Dango comes back with chops before hitting a scoop slam and a suicide dive before Blake hits one of his own. FS then hit a diving stomp into a DDT for the pin and the win.
Winner: The Forgotten Sons defeat Breezango via pinfall.
-We get a video package for Keith Lee ahead of his rubber match against Dominik Dijakovic next week as we go to commercial.
BOA vs Cameron Grimes
Cameron immediately hits a jumping stomp for the pin and the win.
Winner: Cameron Grimes defeats BOA via pinfall with a jumping stomp.
-After the match Cameron quickly leaves before Killian Dain comes out and attacks BOA, even dropping him across the announce table.
-We get a video package for Damian Priest after his attack on Pete Dunne last week as we go to commercial.
Roderick Strong vs Isaiah Scott
They lock up to start the match before Strong takes Scott down with a side headlock and they grapple to the ropes for a clean break. Isaiah gets a quick two count and chops Roddy against the ropes before hitting a front suplex and a huricanrrana into a dropkick for a long two count. Scott kicks Strong who chops him until Strong hits a backbreaker and counters a flying move by Scott into another backbreaker. Strong then punches Scott in the corner and hits a third backbreaker for a two count as we go to commercial.
We return to Strong in control until Scott drops Roddy with a stiff forearm and a running back elbow in the corner into a diving elbow to the back of the neck. Scott traps Strong in the corner and hits a superkick into a draping DDT for a near fall while Undisputed Era cheer Strong on on the ramp before Scott goes up top and Strong rolls out onto the apron. Strong gets trapped dangling in the ropes and Scott hits a diving stomp before Scott gets distracted by UE and Strong hits a shining wizard into a backbreaker and the Strong Hold for the tap and the win.
Winner: Roderick Strong defeats Isaiah Scott with the Strong Hold.
-After the match Adam Cole cuts a promo before UE are interrupted by Velveteen Dream on the big screen before he shows up on a balcony in the back of the arena while showing photo shopped images of Strong and implying that he has no genitals before Tommaso Ciampa comes out to the ring with a crutch before UE scatter and leave. Tommaso then sits down on a chair in the ring and says that daddy’s home before daring UE to get into the ring before we get a video package WALTER and KUSHIDA ahead of their match in tonight’s main event as we go to commercial.
-We get a recap of what happened during the commercial between Tommaso Ciampa and Angel Garza in which Angel interrupted an interview with Ciampa before Ciampa laid Angel out.
Dakota Kai vs Bianca Belair
Bianca shoves Kai down before Kai takes her down and they exchange standing switches before Kai hits a jumping stomp, Bianca rolling out of the ring before Kai hits a PK and tosses Bianca back into the ring for a two count. Bianca drives her shoulder into Kai and hits a hip toss before slamming her down to the mat for a quick two count before Kai gets a two count off of an inside cradle. Bianca then hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for a two count as we go to commercial.
Kai rocks Bianca with a boot and hits a helluva kick for a two count before hitting knees to the chest for another two count and Bianca drives her into the corner. Kai rolls Bianca up for a near fall before Bianca hits a KOD into a standing shooting star press for a near fall before Kai counters a powerbomb into a sunset flip for a near fall. Bianca then hits a burning hammer into a sit-out facebuster for the pin and the win.
Winner: Bianca Belair defeats Dakota Kai via pinfall with a burning hammer sit-out facebuster.
-After the match Bianca says that if anyone wants a shot at the NXT Women’s champion they have to go through her.
-We get a video package for Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic from the point of view of Dom this time before we get another video package for Finn Bálor after he was drafted to RAW and his journey to becoming the inaugural Universal champion.
-We get a video package for Pete Dunne’s career from the NXT UK tournament to becoming the NXT UK champion and his journey to NXT proper ahead of his match against Damian Priest next week.
KUSHIDA vs WALTER
WALTER tosses KUSHIDA across the ring and counters a single leg takedown before setting him on the apron before they grapple KUSHIDA slaps WALTER. KUSHIDA sends WALTER over the top rope and dropkicks him off of the apron and down onto the floor as we go to commercial.
We come back to KUSHIDA in control until WALTER drops him with a boot when he misses a springboard before WALTER locks in a single leg Boston crab before KUSHIDA gets to the ropes for the break. WALTER traps KUSHIDA in the ropes and hits him with clubbing blows before dropping him with one of his signature open hand palm strikes. KUSHIDA comes back with a DDT and when WALTER goes for a powerbomb before KUSHIDA hits his signature hip toss into a cartwheel dropkick before he goes for a sunset powerbomb and WALTER stomps him. KUSHIDA dodges WALTER who hits the ring post before KUSHIDA hits a DDT off of the apron and onto the floor before they get back in the ring and KUSHIDA hits a Pele kick into a PK and locks in a guillotine before WALTER powers out of it and locks in a sleeper. KUSHIDA counters into an armbar before WALTER picks him up and KUSHIDA gets a near fall off of an inside cradle before WALTER hits a boot into a snap German suplex and a bridging fall away slam for a near fall. KUSHIDA catches WALTER up top and locks in the Hover Board Lock before WALTER gets to the ropes for the break, KUSHIDA kicking WALTER in the face before WALTER hits a shotgun dropkick into a powerbomb for a near fall. WALTER then hits a rip cord lariat for the pin and the win.
Winner: WALTER defeats KUSHIDA via pinfall with a rip cord lariat.
-We end the show with the announcement of Tommaso Ciampa versus Angel Garza for next week and Roderick Strong and Velveteen Dream for the NXT North American Championship in two weeks as we go off the air.
