WWE was once known as the World Wrestling Federation. The promotion changed its name to World Wrestling Entertainment after losing a lawsuit to the World Wildlife Fund in 2002.
In 2011, WWE made a conscious effort to refer to their organization specifically as WWE instead of the full name of World Wrestling Entertainment. The reasoning given for the switch at the time was the belief that the promotion does more than just professional wrestling.
Paul Levesque compared the name switch to KFC, citing that the organization offers more than fried chicken.
