WWE 2K Battlegrounds ESRB Rating Reveals Google Stadia Debut & Nintendo Switch Return For WWE Games

WWE 2K Battlegrounds’ ESRB rating is providing a little more knowledge on what it said for the brand new gaming series debuting this fall.

In late April 2020, it was announced that there would be no WWE 2K21 video game this year. Instead, WWE games will see the debut of new series, WWE 2K Battlegrounds.

Battlegrounds will focus on arcade-style combat and over-the-top shenanigans as opposed to the simulation style of gameplay that the 2K series has become known for. In the teaser trailer, John Cena is shown being fed to an alligator by The Rock. Now, we know a little bit more about the over-the-top wackiness planned for this upcoming game.

The ESRB rating for the upcoming video game reveals several new details including the inclusion of a create-a-wrestler mode, an electrified cage, and the debut of WWE games on the Google Stadia cloud gaming platform, and a return to Nintendo Switch for WWE games. The first time for the brand since the heavily buggy port of WWE 2K18 in 2017.

This is an arcade-style fighting game in which players engage in wrestling matches using custom characters and WWE Superstars. Characters punch, kick, and throw each other during matches; players can also attack opponents by using chairs, poles, alligators, exploding barrels, and falling cars. Wrestlers react to damage by crying out in pain, and/or writhing on the floor. Matches are depicted in a somewhat exaggerated cartoon style—highlighted by impact sounds, slow-motion effects, and occasional explosions. In one sequence, wrestlers climb and are shocked by an electrified cage while grabbing bags of cash. Some female wrestlers wear outfits that expose moderate amounts of cleavage and/or buttocks; characters can perform taunt actions that are somewhat suggestive (e.g., a hula-styled circular dance).

WWE 2K Battlegrounds is set to be released this fall. Fightful will report any and all updates about the video game as they become available.
