Will Ospreay Intended To Quit Wrestling Before Getting Offers From Three Companies
Will Ospreay was only months away from giving up on professional wrestling.
In 2015, Will Ospreay had been wrestling for only a few years and was having some financial concerns according to a tweet he sent out on Friday. During that year, he made a deal with himself to leave wrestling if something did not work out soon.
“I actually had a conversation with some of my friends knowing I was going to BOLA for the first time.’If there was no interest in any company by the end of the year, I’m gonna have to quit wrestling and get a proper job,'” wrote Ospreay.
Later that year, Ospreay made a break through in his career. He made it to the semi-finals of the 2015 BOLA tournament and then started hearing more from bigger wrestling promotions.
“Thankfully in October 2015 I faced Okada for RPW and was asked to come in for NJPW. Roughly same year, I was offered WWE and months after…TNA. So, I had my pick of where to go. I selected NJPW as I wanted to become a well rounded performer and it’s the greatest decision I’ve ever made,” wrote Ospreay.
Earlier this year, Ospreay became a two time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion before losing the title to the winner of the Best of the Super Juniors tournament Hiromu Takahashi.
Ospreay’s full statement can be seen in the tweets above.
