Will Ospreay is not ready to let NJPW go yet.

Will Ospreay’s NJPW contract was set to expire in February 2024. With NJPW’s blessing, he agreed to terms with AEW, and he was revealed as the company’s new signing at AEW Full Gear. Ospreay will finish up with NJPW before he joins AEW, and it is expected that he will still be able to take NJPW dates once he does.

Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Ospreay commented on his dual contract status with AEW and NJPW.

“My contract with New Japan has not terminated yet. That means I’ll be the first wrestler to be under a dual contract with AEW and New Japan, which is fun,” Ospreay said.

Ospreay continued by stating that he needs to remain somewhat involved in NJPW, especially with his United Empire stable, as he is not ready to let it go yet. He also noted that he’s always striving to improve, and he doesn’t want to grow stagnant by taking time off.

“I still need to have some sort of involvement in New Japan, especially with my faction United Empire. That is very important to me. I grew up in New Japan. I’m not ready to let it go. I’ve been everywhere, and that’s because I’m constantly trying to better myself. I have this idea in my mind that I’ll grow stagnant with time off. I want to keep pushing. That’s what I am going to do,” Ospreay said.

During the interview, Ospreay stated that he trusts Tony Khan with his aura and his character. Check out his comments here.
