Wildkat Sports passed along a recap of the event:
While 2021 has seen the return of professional wrestling to live crowds across the country, a notable exception had been the state of Louisiana. That all changed with the return of WildKat Sports, who held their first live wrestling event with fans in attendance on Saturday night! Performing from the Grace King Auditorium in Metairie, Louisiana, WildKat put on a show with live fans in attendance for the first time since February 2020! WildKat celebrates ten years as a promotion this year, so getting the go ahead to return to inring competition couldn’t have come at a more special time.
Wildkat Sports worked with the Louisiana athletic commission and the local school board to ensure safety measures were in place to protect both the fans and the Superstars in attendance. Mask mandates were enforced for everyone entering the building, as well as a no contact policy between the fans and the Superstars. After almost eighteen months of hurdles, WildKat was finally able to bring professional wrestling back to a ravenous crowd that was ready for live raucous action and WildKat delivered in spades.
A seven match card saw many familiar faces, and a few new ones, who were eager to make WildKat’s return a memorable one.
The show kicked off with Luke Hawx, who welcomed the fans and thanked the crowd for supporting WildKat during these uncertain times before introducing new MC, Trey Sarver.
Former WildKat Champion and hardcore legend Stevie Richards defeated the Devisive Chuck Devine in the opening contest. Chuck assaulted Richards before the bell and would dominate most of the matchup. Devine lived up to his disrespectful reputation by donning Richard’s ring jacket before meeting a Stevie Kick out of nowhere to earn the Philadelphia Icon the win.
The Revolt’s Kaleb (with a K) & Zane Riley took on the Father-Daughter Duo of Jimmy & Jazzy Yang in an intergender tag team contest. The Last Dragon Princess caught Konley off the top rope with a Yang-Bang Cutter to earn the surprise victory and bring awareness to her non-profit organization “Wrasslin’ 4 The Kiddos,” which raises funds for underprivileged kids to get involved with sports.
During the Pandemic, many of the WildKat Superstars stayed busy contributing to the new STARZ series “Heels.” Before the premiere of this new wrestling series on August 15th, two young competitors from that production met at Wildkat’s return: the debuting Brady Pierce and one half of the WKS tag team champions PJ Hawx. While the incredible specimen that is Brady Pierce was making his return to the squared circle, fans will remember Pj Hawx for his death defying leap off the mall at WildKat’s last event that went viral last year. The competitive back and forth contest between Hawx and Brady was unfortunately ruined by an attack from the Revolt. Konley and Riley took out their frustrations on Brady before focusing on the young Tag Team Champion Hawx. PJ fought them off before being joined by his father and tag team champion partner Luke Hawx. It looks like a Tag Team showdown between Hawx Aerie and The Revolt looms in the future.
The next match saw tag team champion Luke Hawx take on Jared Wayne, who was accompanied by Hardbody Harper. The last time these two shared a ring was with their respective tag team partners, with Hawx Aerie defeating Pump Patrol to capture the tag team gold. Hawx hit a devastating powerslam off the top rope onto Wayne for the victory.
The Revolution championship was on the line next, with the new champion Edgrin “Edge” Stone defending against the former champion Jace Valor. “The Baton Rouge Bullet” Valor fought valiantly against the imposing Stone Titan. Stone would catch Valor with a devastating maneuver that saw Valor wisely get his foot on the rope to break up the pinfall, but Harper on the outside pushed Jace’s leg off and out of sight of the referee, leading to a successful defense for Stone.
After suffering an MCL tear and vacating both the WKS Revolution and Heavyweight championships, it was questionable if Matt Lancie would ever compete again but the Outlaw triumphantly made his return to inring competition against MLW’s Buku Dao. The Sitsu-Asian Buku Dao is a former Revolution and WildKat champion in his own right, but would go down after a devastating spear from Lancie, giving the Outlaw the decisive victory.
The almost unrecognizable Gregory Sharpe, who WildKat fans remember as “Hyperstreak,” challenged for the WildKat Title in the Main Event. Gone was the mask and energetic demeanor. Instead was focus and stoicism for Sharpe, who very nearly captured the WildKat title on his first attempt. In the end, however, it was a successful championship defense for the reigning WildKat Heavyweight champion “Ruthless” Ryan Davidson, who continued his historic 585 day reign after a spiral splash to Sharpe off the top rope and end the night in dramatic fashion.
