Wesley Blake Thought He And Murphy Would Be Split Days Before Winning NXT Tag Team Titles
Wesley Blake experienced his most success in WWE teaming with Buddy Murphy in NXT.
The duo won the NXT Tag Team Titles in January 2015, holding the titles for 219 days. Just before they won the belts, Blake actually thought they would be split up.
“The weekend before, me and Buddy got sat down with a couple of coaches and they told us, ‘Ya’ll are wrestling outside your lane a little bit.’ We were like, ‘Okay.’ The vibe me and Buddy got was like, ‘Oh man, are they going to break us up?’ Once we showed up to TV that day, we knew we had to wrestle twice, but we weren’t let in on it until later in the day when they told us we were getting the titles. We just had a stern talking to and now we’re getting the titles,” Blake recalled in an interview with Two Man Power Trip. “Before that, when we started pitching stuff with Alexa, that was a pitch they went with and it was a lot of fun. Two absolute professionals in every word. Lexi was great character-wise and she helped me and Murphy with promos and confidence. Me and Murphy always hit it off in-ring-wise and what we could do to make things better. It was something we pitched, we hoped it happened, and it did.”
Blake & Murphy would split in 2016 just prior to Bliss going up to the main roster.
After Steve Cutler, who was teaming with Blake, was released by WWE in February, Blake & Murphy pitched to get back together. You can find Blake’s full comments on the pitch by clicking here.
