CM Punk made his shocking return to WWE at WWE Survivor Series on November 25. Over the next few weeks, he made appearances on Raw and SmackDown, and he also popped up at NXT Deadline. However, he did not wrestle. Punk signed with Raw on the December 11 episode of the show. He finally returned to the ring at the WWE Holiday Tour live event at Madison Square Garden on December 26.
There, he faced former NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio. Punk ultimately scored the win in his first WWE match since the 2014 Royal Rumble. He had not competed in a singles match since the January 20, 2014 episode of WWE Raw, where he beat Billy Gunn.
