Wardlow Praises Hangman Page And MJF For Their Psychology In AEW

While many critics praise the in-ring work of AEW as being action-packed, there are some who believe things need to slow down and introduce more psychology.

Bully Ray has levied that complaint at AEW, believing some matches are too spot heavy and lack the storytelling and psychology necessary in wrestling. Even AEW announcer Jim Ross has criticized certain spots in matches for lacking purpose.

Appearing on Busted Open Radio, Wardlow named two individuals in AEW who pay attention to the finer in-ring details and psychology.

Depends on who you’re working with,” replied Wardlow when asked about the differences in “spots vs. psychology” in AEW matches by Bully Ray. “I haven’t had a great amount of matches, but the ones I have been involved with, there have been some individuals where it’s like, ‘we have this spot, this spot, and this spot.’ Then some I’ve worked with really take their time and ponder and think about things and how it makes sense. [Hangman] Page was one that I was really impressed by. The way he dissected things and wanted everything to make sense and click. I really appreciated that. That’s one thing about Max [MJF], he’s big on psychology and storytelling. I’ve witnessed Max come into situations where people are talking about hitting spot after spot after spot and he comes in and is like, ‘Guys, that makes no sense.’ He gets it and that’s why he so successful at such a young age. I do appreciate when Max comes in and is like ‘let’s tell a story and make this make sense.'”

Wardlow was also complimentary of AEW agent Billy Gunn, who he singled out as the agent he’s spoken to the most since joining the company.

Though the Inner Circle will be in action on Wednesday’s Dynamite in a triple threat tag team match, Wardlow will not be participating in the bout.

Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Dynamite beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
